Am I the only person who doesn’t think “the feminists” are being unreasonable when they say that this creation only furthers rape culture?
I think the point they are trying to make is that instead of having to pour money into inventing things women need to use to be overly cautious in our world, we should be spending our resources teaching people (and I say people, because women are guilty too) of simply NOT RAPING PEOPLE.
As a woman, I shouldn’t have to wear special nail polish to go out at night. I should be able to set my goddamn drink down and not immediately panic that some terrible human being put something in it. While this invention is fantastic and I am very impressed by it, it’s like putting a band-aid on the gaping wound that is rape culture.
This does not solve the problem, it is just something that people will now use as a crutch. What happens if a woman uses the nail polish, all her drinks are safe, she gets buzzed, and THEN a man takes advantage of her? The nail polish can’t save her from that. It creates a false sense of security, as the problem of rape is still out there.
